K8 and I have gotten engaged!
Shortly before New Year’s during Xmas break we had two gigantic snow storms in the same week. When the second snow storm hit, we were prepared and had rented some snow shoes. We snowshoed from the house, up Maxwell trail to the top bluff overlooking the reservoir and the city. I had been carrying the ring around for a week or so waiting for a great moment to propose. I had a good idea this would be it so at this point, it was burning a whole in my pocket. We got to the top and took in the scenery for a moment. I had a big smile on my face (which Kate interpreted as a conniving smile) and with my hand in my pocket I started to kneel down. K8 jumped back yelling, “What are you going to do to me!?” She thought I was going to tackle her or throw snow or something. As she started to flee I yelled, “No no, come back…” then I brought out the ring and proposed. It was the best snow day ever. She was surprised, it’s all good..
For the cyclists out there, the ring (or the “Precious”) was made by Bruce Boone, the maker of the famous sexy Boone Titanium Chainrings. I had been shopping for ring ideas and was looking into titanium bands. I like the look of titanium and the idea of an alternative metal that would be long lasting and indestructible. I stumbled across Boone Titanium Rings. Turns out in his retirement from the biking industry, Bruce Boone is now making custom titanium jewelry. This was it, a perfect idea for K8 being the bike racer, to have a ring built by the man himself. So here it is, a just OK picture of it – doesn’t do it justice at all:
